Yudis – Metal Bartender

One of the most fascinating bartenders we have met in Bali is Yudis. With his particular appearance, his charming manners and his unique style, he draws his guests into his spell when he is mixing his cocktails.

When he started his bartender career back in 2005, his desire to throw the shakers behind the bar had been in his mind for a while. “I remember once, when I was a little boy, my mother saw a bartender flair competition, and it was her greatest wish that one day I would become a bartender myself” recalls Yudis. He has attended quite a few bartender flair competitions since 2005, with a successful track record. The Javanese native has participated in over 50 competitions and won 25 of them. Being such a skillful bartender competitor should make him comfortable when his turn comes to get on the stage, right? “Oh no, I’m always nervous,” he says.

But it does not stop there, because besides the Flair Bartending, Yudis has also dived  into the area of ​​mixology. More than 50 cocktail creations have already emerged from his creative mind and among them are some really crazy mixtures. Crispy bacon along with chocolate in a cocktail? We could not imagine what it would be like, but Yudis was already getting busy behind the bar, and within seconds he had mixed for us a unique and delicious cocktail. We also asked him how he would imagine a cocktail synonymous with Bali: “For sure something with Kuah Pindang, Brim, Arak and Coconut”.

If he was to start all over again, he would very likely be standing here today being a Flair bartender. And this is great, because this is exactly the perfect matching profession for such a creative and unique individual like Yudis!
